The purpose of this EUMETSAT Copernicus Marine Data Stream (CMDS)
training course is to share knowledge, skills, resources and code so
attendees are able to independently access and apply Data of EUMETSATs
Copernicus Marine Data Stream for their marine work-flows and
applications.
Target Audience:
This training is aimed at those working in the operational marine sector
and government agencies who are interested in working with
satellite-based ocean observation data for marine applications. It would
be beneficial for participants to have introductory experience using
SNAP and/or a scripting language such as Python (or similar), but this
is not a prerequisite. Please note that this course is aimed primarily at
European audiences and participants from Copernicus programme member
states.
Outline
of course:
This is a blended
course that will be presented through two phases. The first will be a week of
asynchronous, self-paced learning with educational resources provided through
an online platform called Moodle. To work through these
resources, attendees will require 1-2 hours
of self-paced learning each day.
The
second phase will consist of live 2-hour demonstration sessions run daily for 2
weeks, to take attendees through the Moodle content.
These ‘espresso sessions’ are optional for attendance, and will cover FAQs
including SNAP and python demos, background and technical sessions, and
questions and answer sessions for tailored 1:1 interaction. These sessions are
also designed to help attendees tune CMDS approaches and dataflows to their
unique operational projects and responsibilities
Objectives:
After the course participants will have the skills to:
•
Understand what data and products the Copernicus Marine Data Stream
provides (variables, timeliness, resolution, data formats);
• Select from the Copernicus Marine Data Stream appropriate products for specific tasks;
• Access / download data and products provided in the Copernicus Marine Data Stream;
• Know how to work with CMDS data in SNAP, GIS, and Python (Jupyter Notebooks);
• Use data / products from the Copernicus Marine Data Stream for your own purposes.
