  • The AI Mooc - The story behind a Mooc (from marketing to funding, instructional design and implementation)

Webinar with Neil Fletcher and Mark Higgins

    4 May 2022, 13:30 UTC; Register here

The Copernicus AI for Earth Monitoring Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) was implemented by EUMETSAT and partners from October 2021 until November 2011. The course remains open for people to work though the course until October 2022 ( and people are still joining ).

EUMETSAT his often asked for the story behind the MOOC - what is it, why did we do it, how did we put it in place and what challenges did we have and what have we learned. These are the themes fore this session.

    We'll cover:

    • the pedogeological ideas - what does it mean to teach in this way and how we set up the course practically (including what does it mean to be a participant in a MOOC).
    • The technical implementation - how we set up the data and notebooks so that people could learn from real experiences (using data on WEKEO and Jupyter notebooks).
    • The importance of the partnerships - no one entity could do this! Finding real world examples from multiple areas in a growing field.
    • What it achieved - for the partners and the participants.
